Petunia is all set to host a birthday party at a lavish hotel, when suddenly she realizes her party has gone missing! She phones up her friend, Agent Lion, to come and do some detective work. The pair search the hotel high and low, question witnesses, and look for clues in David Soman and Jacky Davis’ Agent Lion and the Case of the Missing Party.

“Hurry, Agent Lion!” cried Petunia. “That looks like the cart my birthday cake was on, and it’s getting away!”

Petunia and Agent Lion search the dining room, the pool, and even walk in on an ostrich family reunion. My toddler really liked pointing out the clues on the pages like the stray balloons and streamers.

Finally they come across a major clue and the mystery is solved. I won’t spoil the ending but it’s a very sweet surprise!

“Agent Lion and Petunia got up and raced after the balloon, and then they saw another, and then another. “They’re coming from behind these doors!” announced Petunia.”

‘Clueless’ Detective

I really liked Agent Lion’s dialogue and character in this book. He comes across almost as a ‘clueless detective’ with his funny comments and questions as he investigates. All the while he’s being lead along by his little pal, Petunia.

My toddler was laughing at the little jokes too, for example when the ‘interview’ the goldfish and search Mrs. Walrus’ bags.

Final Thought

All in all, this was a fun read with a little bit of mystery — even I must admit I was looking forward to seeing what happened to the party!
